Edwin A. Canine, 82, born June 12, 1929 - passed away on 3 November 2011. Edwin was born in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma on June 12, 1929, the son of Lt. General Ralph J. Canine, USA and Ruth W. Canine. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1951 as a proud Tar Heel with a BA in Political Science and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended Officer Candidate School, and served as a Captain in the Field Artillery until 1955. In February 1954 he married Virginia Martin, the love of his life for the next 57 years. In 1955, after an Honorable Discharge, he began work for the National Security Agency. His career at NSA spanned the next 33 years and included postings in Boston, Stuttgart, Germany and Fort Meade, Maryland, through his retirement on January 2, 1989.
He enjoyed the next 23 years of his life with his wife Virginia, family and friends, spending their summers in their family home in Island Pond, Vermont. He was also a 33rd degree Mason, conferred by the Scottish Rite.
Edwin was a resident of Crofton, Maryland since August 1965. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia M. Canine; three children, Susan C. Miller, Peter M. Canine and his wife Carol, Elizabeth A. Harlow and her husband Scott; five grandchildren, Zachary, Virginia, Jessica, Alexander and Andrew.
