J. Kevin Colligan

Remembering NCF member J. Kevin Colligan. Obituary to follow:

James Kevin Colligan passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, January 28, 2025 after battling ALS and Parkinson's for more than five years. A beloved father, brother, friend, and colleague, Kevin leaves behind both an incredible legacy and an irreplaceable void.

Kevin's life was defined by many things: a boundless curiosity and respect for the world we share; a limitless compassion & love for his family and friends; and a selfless devotion to everything to which he put his mind.

Kevin retired from the Agency in 2005 after serving for 32 years. He was a long-time member of the Phoenix Society and was a member of the National Cryptologic Foundation as well.

Kevin is the son of the late James Patrick Colligan and the late Philomena Eugenia Schmitt, and was married to the late Suzanne Toppino Colligan. He is survived by his son, Patrick M. Colligan, and daughter-in-law, Abby T. Knipp, both of Arlington, VA, and his brother, Michael D. Colligan, and sister-in-law, Jeneal Colligan, both of Granite City, IL.

To honor Kevin's remarkable life and legacy, a Catholic mass will be held at Holy Trinity Chapel in Georgetown (3601 O St. NW) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 17th. All are welcome to attend to pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to either the ALS Association or to the American Cancer Society. We will one day find a cure to both of these terrible diseases.
