
Mr. George Arthur Lawrence, age 82, husband of Bonnie Strother Lawrence of Strother Rd., passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at White Oak at North Grove in Spartanburg.
Mr. Lawrence was born in Middletown, CT, February 23, 1940, the son of the late Alfred and Ethel Jones Lawrence. He grew up and was educated in Durham, CT. In April 1962, he enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the US Army Security Agency (ASA), the electronic intelligence branch of the service. From May 1965 to January 1994, he was employed by the National Security Agency (NSA) at Ft. Meade, MD.
In retirement, Mr. Lawrence became interested in television production, taking classes in photographing, directing, and editing shows for a community televisions station. He worked on hundreds of local productions. Many received local and national awards. With his wife, he produced three historical documentaries that also won awards. In 2002 George and Bonnie Lawrence returned to her family home in Santuck. Together they produced the historical documentary, "It's All About Santuck."
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Michael Lawrence of Salisbury, MD; his brother, David and wife Donna of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters-in-law, Jeannie Strother and Mary S. Raker, both of Charlotte, NC; a brother-in-law, Charles Gaines of Mt. Airy, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters-in-law, Gloria Gaines of Mt. Airy, GA, and Nancy Strother of Miami, FL.
