The NCF remembers Frank Curley - an early and long-time member of the Foundation. His obituary is provided below.
Francis (Frank) Boyd Curley, Sr., 84, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 22, with his wife of 63 years by his side. He was the husband of Sara (Sally) A. Eagan. Born on December 30, 1939, in Brighton, MA, he was the son of Michael Luke Curley and Mary Ellen (Boyd) Curley.
Frank led a very full and happy life. He was a devout Catholic who attended the Church of the Resurrection in Burtonsville, MD. His loves were his faith, family and friends. His hobbies included traveling the world with his wife, playing golf and poker with his friends, reading a good book, and doing anything with his children or grandchildren. He enjoyed watching sports and was a big Redskins, Orioles, Red Sox and Celtics fan.
His eight grandchildren and two (soon to be three) great-grandchildren knew him as “Poppi”, and he proudly displayed that on his license plate that read “POPPIX8”. To them, Poppi was a wonderful grandfather, loving and caring, always supportive, and sometimes silly. Poppi enjoyed going to watch his grandchildren at whatever sport they were playing at the time.
Frank was a graduate of Boston College, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in 1961, in Economics. Out of college, he moved to the D.C. area to start his career at the National Security Agency. He was a graduate of the National War College and was awarded the Exceptional Civilian Service Award. He worked for NSA for 39 years before retiring as an executive manager. He was a former member of the Phoenix Society.
Frank is survived by his children: Francis Boyd Curley, Jr. (Sue), Brian Curley (Carol), Michael Curley (Dana), Caryn Stackhouse (Lawrence); grandchildren: Zachary Curley (Teresa), Kevin Curley (Brittany), Allyson Moriarty (Darragh), Thomas M. Curley, Thomas B. Curley (Lacey), Sean Curley (Hailee), Amanda Curley and Eric Curley (Adrienne); and great-grandchildren Adam Curley, Evan Curley and one more on the way in March 2025, as well as a brother Arthur Curley (Joan) and brother-in-law of Anne Eagan.
