
Charles H. Meade
The NCF remembers long-time member Charles H. Meade. (1 May 1939 - 10 February 2025) Obituary to follow:
Charles H. Meade, a resident of Heritage Plantation in Pawleys Island, SC, died peacefully at his home in Pawleys Island, with his loving wife by his side. He was 85 years old.
He was an active member of the community including All Saints Church, Pawleys Island, where he served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and participated in other volunteer activities. He loved golf and was a member of the Caledonia and True Blue Golf Club. He was a dedicated Corvette enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed his Corvette and his work in support of the National Corvette Museum, as well as the Myrtle Beach and Queen City (Charlotte) Corvette Clubs.
Charlie was a member of the U.S. Department of Defense for 37 years, both as a civilian and an Air Force Officer. He retired from the National Security Agency in 1997 and was a long-time member of the Phoenix Society. He also held key civilian management positions in the Defense Contract Administration Service in Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Towson, Maryland. As a U.S. Air Force Officer, he served in aircraft operations; missile operations, and industrial engineering positions at several locations in the U.S. and Germany prior to joining the Department of Defense as a civilian.
He was also an employee of the Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. in Sunnyvale, California, and served on the corporate staff of the Eaton Corp., Cleveland, as a participant in the U.S. President's Executive Interchange Program during President Carter's term in office.
Charlie was an adjunct faculty member in the Schools of Business at the University of Baltimore Graduate and Undergraduate schools; Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California, and Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio, where he taught a variety of management courses.
He was born in Ashland, Kentucky and grew up in Durham, N .C. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University (BS) and received an MS Degree from the University of Southern California.
An active member of the Anglican and Episcopal Churches, he served as a Vestry person, licensed Lay Reader and Chalicist at churches in Ohio, California, Maryland and South Carolina for many years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Deborah Dillon; his daughter Kristen M. Tamblyn (Charles) of Neptune Beach, FL; two sons, Charles J. Meade (Debra) of Centerville, VA and Michael G. Meade (Joy) of Slidell, LA, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter Lauren Louise Tamblyn and precious niece Wendy Adams.
Memorial and graveside services will be offered on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at All Saints Church, 3560 Kings River Rd., Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
The family suggests memorial contributions to All Saints Church, Pawleys Island, SC, St Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
