20 July 1988: Eight year Iran-Iraq War ends. The end of the war technically occurred on July 18, when Iran accepted UN Resolution 598 calling for an immediate cease-fire, though minor Iraqi attacks continued for a few more days after the truce came into effect on July 20, 1988.
