John Platter

From CIVOP to Field Chief positions to Deputy Director of Operations, John Platter was a model of integrity, a complete SIGINT professional and patriot. He always had a keenly focused mission vision, a talent for multi-agency and foreign liaison work, and a challenging, but compassionate management style. Mr. John Jackson Platter died of cancer on 31 March 2001 at the age of 69. Mr. Platter retired from the NSA in 1987 after 32 years of federal service that included four years in the Air Force as a young man. His NSA career included duty in Japan, the Philippines, Cyprus, Thailand, Korea and Germany, in addition to jobs in the United States.
