John J. Monroe, a former executive manager at NSA, was 75 years old when he passed away on 30 March 1988.
John was born in Jacksonville, IL and graduated from Illinois College. He later received a Master's Degree in English from the University of Colorado.
John served in naval intelligence in Washington, DC from 1945 to 1951. In 1951 he joined NSA and later received both the Meritorious Civilian Service and Exceptional Service awards. His 43 years of service with NSA ended with his retirement in 1988.
During his leisure time, John taught English compsition at George Washington University and sang in the St. John's Episcopal Church choir in Ellicott City. He was also a member of the Phoenix Society.
He was survived by his wife, six children by his first marriage, two children by his second marriage, one sister, one brother, and two grandchildren.
