In Memoriam Registry Honorees

Bernard “Berny” Peters passed away at 92 on June 15, 2024 and went into God’s hands. He lived a long, full life as a beloved husband, cherished father, and amazing grandfather. He loved his family most, but Pepsi, Spam and John Deere were close behind.

Berny married Gloria almost 70 years ago, and in that time became “Dad” to five, “Grandad” to 10 and “Great-Grandad” to four. He loved piling everyone into the big van to take trips to the vacation home in Pennsylvania where so many memories were made riding tractors, driving four-wheelers, climbing trees, roasting marshmallows and spending time together. He and Gloria welcomed everyone into the family, making everyone feel loved, cherished, and important.

Berny took great pride in the work he did. As a young fellow and after graduating high school, he worked in Bethlehem, PA at a steel mill and was a union steward. He then began working at the National Security Agency, where he was a cryptologist and was part of revolutionizing computer networking. His family is very proud of him for his work and the many awards received, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He was very happy!

As a faithful man of God, church and religion were other loves of his. He prayed often and for everyone. Now, being in God’s hands, he will be deeply missed but happy once again. His legacy of loving, caring and playing silly jokes on all those he spent time with will continue through his wife, Gloria, children and grandchildren.

Berny was preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Marcella and siblings, Christine, Leonard and Bernadine. He is also survived by great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to Berny’s favorite Foundation: the National Cryptologic Foundation at https://cryptologicfoundation.org/support-us/donate/give/tribute_donations.html

Details on the funeral service are forthcoming.
