Paying tribute to Mr. Eugene Becker - October 2018 Ceremony & Reception

On 3 October the NCMF held a ceremony and reception in honor of donations made at the Benefactor and Patron levels in memory of Gene Becker. Gene's family and friends requested donations be used toward academic endeavors. Accordingly the Foundation has established the Eugene J. Becker Award for Excellence in Cybersecurity and Cryptology with the Maryland Humanities Council. The award will be presented annually to a middle and high school student at Maryland History Day.

Gene passed away at the age of 90 on 9 June 2018. He was instrumental in guiding the Foundation, along with Bob Rich, Ann Caracristi, Bill Kvetkas, Jim Boone, and others, through its early years. He was appointed Vice President following the retirement of Bob Rich and became President in 2006. Although Gene retired in September 2014, he continued to visit the office and remain in touch with the staff, attend programs and keep abreast of new museum developments. He was a dear friend and mentor to many and always had a kind word for everyone. You can see more photos of Gene and see his full obituary on his In Memoriam Registry page.
