1967: First Vice-Presidential Visit to NSA

26 September 1967: Hubert H. Humphrey visited NSA; first vice-presidential visit.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey visited NSA #OTD in 1967. Mr. Humphrey gave a speech of appreciation to the NSA workforce for their substantial contributions to the national defense. He then toured two operational areas and examined the exhibits on display at NSA for National Security Week. When General Carter (DIRNSA at the time) mentioned that this was the first visit of a Vice President in the Agency's history, Mr. Humphrey quipped, "As Vice President, it's always reassuring to be first in anything."
