Information Assurance (IA) is defined by Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 8500.01E as "measures that protect and defend information and information systems by ensuring their availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation." When you visit the NCM you will see examples of many of the techniques used for IA, starting with "paper and pencil." Examples of equipment used dating back to President Thomas Jefferson can be previewed here.
