Maryland History Day

Each year the NCF sponsors special awards at the Maryland History Day competition, hosted by the Maryland Humanities Council. Junior and Senior division students receive awards and have the opportunity to display their work at the National Cryptologic Museum.

Major General John E. Morrison Award in Excellence and Innovation

In 2014, the NCF (then NCMF) began presenting the Morrison Award to Junior and Senior level Maryland students to celebrate science and technology. The awards are presented at the annual Maryland History Day contest. Learn more about this award, as well as the most recent and previous years’ winners.

Eugene J. Becker Award for Excellence in Cybersecurity and Cryptology

In 2018, the Eugene J. Becker Award for Excellence in Cybersecurity and Cryptology was established as a result of donations made in Gene Becker’s honor. As with the NCF’s other special awards, the award will be presented to a junior and high school level student at the Maryland History Day contest.

Milton Zaslow Award for Cryptology

In 2013, the NCF established its first special award for the Maryland History Day contest. The Milton Zaslow Award for Cryptology honored a cryptologic leader who often participated as a judge for the annual contest. The award was presented to Junior and Senior level students and served as a way to encourage and recognize bright young minds. The Zaslow Award was retired after 2018.
