Ms. O’Rourke joined the Signals Intelligence Service at Arlington Hall in 1942 and served as a cryptanalyst on Japanese crypt systems. Toward the end of WWII and for some years later, she served in the Target Intelligence Committee Group and later in the Target Exploitation or TAREX Group for AFSA and NSA.
