About the Program
In early 2021, the National Cryptologic Foundation—supported by a grant from Arundel Community Development Services, Inc.—partnered with Anne Arundel Community College to launch a student-led game development initiative. The result: a fully operational cybersecurity-themed digital game, created by a three-student intern team using their skills in cybersecurity, digital forensics, networking, and computer science.
Aimed at K–12 students with a focus on middle schoolers, the game offers an engaging way to explore cyber principles through story-driven, interactive play. It was inspired by the Outsmart Cyberthreats booklet and designed to reinforce key concepts in online safety and critical thinking.
The success of this first game led to a sequel, Amanita Whitehat 2: Mayhem at Mallory Middle, which launched in Spring 2023 and is now available to play online or at the National Cryptologic Museum. The NCF is proud to support this innovative effort and grateful to the talented student team that brought these missions to life.
