1900: Naval cryptologist Joseph Rochefort was born.

12 May 1900: Joseph Rochefort, naval cryptologist who led Station HYPO, was born in Dayton, Ohio. Station HYPO was the U.S. Navy’s signals monitoring and cryptographic intelligence unit at Pearl Harbor, and was responsible for breaking the Japanese navy’s code before the Battle of Midway.
