X-WR-CALDESC:2 September 1997: National Vigilance Park dedication. \n\nP
LEASE NOTE - National Vigilance Park was dismantled in early 2017 due
to NSA construction.\n\nThough not officially part of the National Cryptol
ogic Museum\, National Vigilance Park was previously just a short w
alk away and well worth the visit. Open during daylight hours\, it frequen
tly hosted military ceremonies as well as visits from the general public.
\n\nThe secrecy of reconnaissance programs prevented recognition of slain
military personnel at the time of incidents. Their fellow soldiers\, sailo
rs\, airmen\, and marines in similar programs mourned their loss\, but the
fallen could not be accorded public honors. The end of the Cold War has a
llowed for the lifting of security restrictions and long overdo recognitio
n of the achievements and sacrifices of these intrepid military personnel.
To this end\, the United States established National Vigilance Park at Fo
rt Meade\, Maryland. \n\nSee more photos and learn more about National Vig
ilance Park on our website via the link below.
