1955: William Friedman Awarded National Security Medal

12 October 1955: William Friedman was awarded the National Security Medal by Director of Central Intelligence Allen Dulles. The medal was the highest decoration for distinguished achievement related to the national intelligence effort, and was the sixth to be awarded since its creation in 1953. Frank B. Rowlett, who was hired by Friedman as a junior cryptanalyst for the SIS in 1930, was a recipient of the National Security Medal in 1965.
